Largemouth Bass Fishing Tips

North American Fisherman Magazine
I have been fishing for more years than I care to remember, and I have found that, very often, it is the simplest methods that yield the best results. Anglers can very easily over analyze their hobby and consequently their chances of efficient fishing drops dramatically. Take a step back from this analytical stance and get back to basics.

Take fishing for largemouth bass, for example, by considering the inclusion of the following 3 easy and basic largemouth bass fishing tips as part of your repertoire you will, almost certainly, start landing more bass. I have been successfully using these methods for many years now and they will work for your too.

Avoid Over Excessive Line Weight:

Using line that is excessive in weight is a common error on the part of the bass angler, this can contribute to unsuccessful fishing sorties. There are people that catch bass as their lively hood, you may have seen them on television, their main objective is to get the fish into their vessel in the shortest possible time and to do this they will use a heavy fishing line, however, this is not the case for the everyday bass fisherman or woman. Just bear in mind that the stated weight of fishing line means the weight it will support before breaking. For example, if a line states that its pound test is 10 pounds that means that the line will snap at any weight above 10 pounds and far be it for me to beg the question "just how many 10 pound bass have you landed in recent times?" You have also the flex of your rod and reel action to absorb some of the forces acting on your line. Using a line that is too heavy when fishing for largemouth bass is more of a hindrance.

To A Largemouth Bass You Smell!

I don't mean to be rude about your personal hygiene, but bass are very sensitive to unusual smells and they will not bite if they detect something out of the ordinary. You don't want your hands smelling of the after-shave you had for your birthday, it may smell nice to humans but largemouth bass, no! Wash your hands with a de-odorizing soap and consider using a fish attraction spay on your bait or lure.

Convince The Fish That Your Bait Is Food:

This may seem the most obvious of all the tips but is sometimes overlooked. Your lure or bait must look and move as realistic as possible. The more lifelike your bait looks and acts in the water the more likely it is that your potential catch will think "yummy dinner time!" and go for your offering. Some very convincing lures are produced by Yo-Zuri and Rapala and one in particular that I have experience with is the KickTail Minnow, this will deceive even the most suspicious largemouth bass.

That concludes my 3 largemouth bass fishing tips. Include them in your routine and you will improve your success rate.

thanks for the tips and i think you are very right about not touching bait or using deodorizing soap that is a good idea after all what ever a person touches the sent of whatever they touch will be on their hands until its washed off if someone wants to experiment with that theory put bleach or rubbing alcohol on your hands and see how long it takes for the smell to come off your had without washing it off
